We love hearing about makgeolli enthusiasts all over the globe, and we came across this article about a Bulgarian man who tries his hand at homebrewing. 22 year old Presiyan Petrov brews his own makgeolli in his apartment in Central Sofia. He and his collegue, 26 year old Kristina Georgieva are sourdough bakers by trade, but have become passionate about all things Korean cuisine, and that includes makgeolli! The challenges are great for the two, as so many of the ingredients can be hard to come accross in Bulgaria which only has one Korean restuarant. We do wonder where they get their hands on the nuruk you need to make makgeolli, but it’s fantastic news to hear they are trying!
